FLOWER SHOW

MATAMATA SOCIETY The annual flower show organised by the Matamata Horticultural Society has gained in popularity each year among growers, and since the exhibition has been held in the Matamata Town Hall the public has accorded very generous and increased support. The sixth annual exhibition will be held next Wednesday, and though the weather has not been all that growers could have desired indications are that the display this year will be well up to past exhibitions and that support should be more general than ever. The district court competition has been revived for this year, and the fact that for the first time the organisation of these has been confined to the different branches of the Women’s Institute should ensure that the district displays will be worth seeing. For this class a fine shield presented by Mr. J. E. Cummings is the trophy. This year the schedule has been thoroughly overhauled and brought right up to date, so that lovers of flowers may be sure that the exhibition will be something which should not be missed. , Last year, owing to the hot weather on show day, the flowers faded somewhat towards evening. To ass|st in preventing a recurrence of this difficulty the Matamata Volunteer Fire Brigade has generously placed its services at the disposal of the show committee, and the hall and roof will be thoroughly hosed and cooled during the day.
