A Matamata registry office has filed applications for 24 farm workers on its books.
The balance-sheet of the Matamata County Council is now available for inspection at residences of councillors and at certain post offices.
Over £3O was taken at the doors in a last-minute rush for seats at the big benefit concert held in the Regent Theatre, Matamata, in aid of the Matamata Citizens Band on Thursday night. It is expected that the total proceeds will be about £SO. Margaret Paton, of Claudelands, was charged in the Matamata Court on Thursday with failing to observe the right-hand rule at W aharoa when approaching the inter-section of the Morrinsville and Wardville roads. A fine of 10s and 16s costs was inflicted.
The South Auckland Cricket Association has asked for nominations from the Piako Association for the team to plav against North Auckland on December 11, 12 and 14 in an elimination Hawke Cup match. At least one nomination will be forwarded from Matamata. ,
Would : detectives make good bookmakers ? This question suggested itself in the Putaruru Magistrate’s Court on Friday when during the hearing of a bookmaking charge, Detective-Sergeant Thompson stated that he had taken three bets over defendant’s telephone. He admitted that none of them won.
Chatting to a representative of the Matamata ■ Record, Mr. Les. Mason, president of the Matamata Acclimatisation Society, stated that he believed there was good authority for the statement that an Australian visitor recently caught a 1711 b brown trout at the mouth of the little Waipa, below the Arapuni Dam.
