A. AND P. SOCIETY

MEETING OF COMMITTEE

Plans for 1936 Shew Arrangements for the 1936 show were discussed at a recent meeting of the general committee of the Morrinsville Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Mr. W. J. Aitken presided. Classes For Draught Horses Mr. Gaddes stated that it had been brought to his notice that the society had never put on a class for a draught foal exhibited by a farmer as apart from recognised exhibitors of registered Clydesdales. A class of this nature should be popular in view of the revival of horse breeding in the Morrinsville district.

The president said there had been a suggestion from horse breeders to include classes for the following: Unregistered draught mare, in foal, dry, or with foal at foot; unregistered yearling. Mr. Gaddes agreed that these classes would be popular, but he would also like to see a class for foal from a mare not eligible' for registration, as exhibitors could bring both mare and foal to the show.

It was agreed to include these three extra classes in the draught horse section.

A motion placing on record the assistance given by Messrs. W. J. Woods and T. E. Duck in connection with the new draught horse classes was passed at the suggestion of the president. Closing of Shops The president proposed that the business people of Morrinsville be invited to close their premises at 12 noon on show day in order to give townspeople ample opportunity of attending the show. He thought the business people had met the society for last show by closing up at 12.30 p.m. This suggestion was approved. New Polo Section With a view to entertaining the public during the lunch hour and at the same time catering for members of polo clubs, it was decided to add a polo section to the schedule. The events will be run off during the time the light horse stewards are at lunch and the ring is vacant. Details of the polo section are as follow: ' ■ :-‘v.. Stewards. —Messrs. F. Sing and M. Shanahan. " Events.—Polo ball race, polo pony test and best polo pony. : Prizes of £1 10s and 10s in each :class. •

Exhibition by Sheep Dog

Mr. Clifford reported that the sheep dog trial committee recommended that an exhibition drive be given in the ring during the lunch hour by the winning dog in the dog trials to be held on a day prior to the show. If the winning dog was not available some other good dog could be used. This event would not take up more than <2O minutes. Mr. Ramsay moved that the sheep dog exhibition be held at the beginning of the luncheon interval, to be followed by the polo club section. Many people who were not acquainted with sheepfarming had asked for an exhibition by sheep dogs in the ring, and so this event shouTd be a big attraction. Mr. Marshall seconded this motion, which was carried. Dog Trials The recommendation of the dog trial stewards was that the trials be held the last Saturday in February on Messrs. Thomas Bros.’ property, Kereone road. Short head and yarding events for various classes of dogs will be held, with liberal prize money provided by the society^ The president announced that Mr. Gibbons had offered a donation of £5 5s towards the expenses of the dog trials. A vote of thanks by acclamation was accorded Mr. Gibbons.
