STARTER BACKFIRE.

It sometimes happens when the statter' button is depressed that the starter will engage and rotate the engine for perhaps half a turn and then come to a stop, although perhaps both starter and battery may be well up to their work, and a second depression of the button will produce the desired effect. If this is so it usually means that the ignition 'is too far advanced, a miniature backfire being the cause of the engine ceasing to turn. The cure, of '-course, is to retard the ignition : slightly.
