SUNDAY SCHOOL CHILDREN’S CHAIN.
The first assembly of some eighty children of the Anglican Sunday schools of Queenstown, Arrowtown, and Arthurs Point, thus forming a children’s chain, took place on Saturday afternoon last. The attendant ceremonies commenced in St. Peter’s 'Church, where a short service was held at which the children were addressed by Mr Sew Hoy, who referred to the significance of the children’s chain. During the service a solo was sung by Miss Muriel Davis. Badges were handed out to the children at the close of the service and after being photographed in the church grounds they were marched rqund to the Garrison Hall where games took place and community singing indulged in. under the leadership of Dr. W. A. Anderson. The children then adjourned to the Parish Hall, where tables were set up and laden with tempting viands kindly provided by St. Peter’s Church Ladies’ Guild and others. After the children had partaken of refreshments a short and interesting programme of musical and elocutionary items were given by several of the children present and further community singing took place, terminating with “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem. The first children’s chain rally was an eminently successful one and much credit is due to Air Sew Hoy and the Ladies’ Guild for the great amount of preparation entailed. It should also be mentioned that Air Jas. Shaw, of Arrowtown conveyed the children of the Arrowtown and Arthurs Point schools into Queenstown free of charge
