BASKETBALL.
ST. JOSEPHS 36 v. HOVERS 13 5. SHOT'OVER 3 v. AREOWTOWN 20. These two matches were played on Wednesday 18th Aug. There remains only one match to be played on Wednesday August 25th, between Shotover and Arrowtown, which will be take place at Shotover. The results of the cup competition will be published next week. On Wednesday 25th inst., at 3 p.m., in the 'Gardens, Rovers A will play a team of local young men for the “Playwell” Cup, which handsome trophy was manufactured and presented by two former members of the young men’s team. During the past two years enthusiasm has waned somewhat, but this year the boys are keen to compete with Rovers A, and are fairly confident of their ability to defeat this year's premier team. Through lack of support Rovers A have found themselves unable to continue with the proposed Yankee Tournament on September Ist. Glenorchy were unable to attend, as the travelling expenses were too heavy.
