ARROW IRRIGATION LEAGUE.

ANNUAL AIEETINGr. The annual meeting of momuers ol the Anew Irrigation League was held in the Council Chambers, Arrowtown, on Friday evening last. Present: Alesisus John Reid (Cave Farm) president, R. AI. Paterson-, W. Churstain, J. Bute-1, J. Grant, K. Brown, T. M. Houston, S. Biwit, T. Feebly, C. Fitzgibbon, R. N. Grant, T. A. Fitzgibbon, R. -Shaw, W. P. Saunders/ and J. H. Douglas (hon. secretary)Before proceeding with the business, the President referred, to the- deaths during the year of Air J. P. Brown, who had been a valued member of of the committee .since the inception of the League, William Shaw (father of Air Eobt. Shaw), and Airs Grant (mother of Air J. Grant). Ik- moved -a motion of sympathy with the relatives, which was carried in the customary manner.

The balance sheet showed a credit balance of 12s 9d as compared with 7s 8d the previous year. Receipts (23 members at 2s (3d) amounted to £2 17s 6d, and the expenditure totalled £2 12s sd. The secretary stated that there had been a decrease of 11 in the number of financial memlx?ns as compaied with 1931. In proposing the adoption of the balance sheet, the President said he was sorry to see »such a small attendance.

In seconding the motion, Mr Paterson said that the apathy shown by members was to be regretted. Seeing

the huge amount the sdhome had cost the Government, he considered that more interest should bo shown. The water had -already proved a great benefit to the district, and as time went on the -benefits would be increased, it was therefore .mostdid' cour,aging when only a bare (juoiiuim attemaied the annual meeting. The- motion was carried. In vacating the chair, the President thanked the members -of the committee lor -tbpi-r co-operation during the year. He also thanked the secretary for his valuable arssisjtiance. Mr Paterson said that last year he had stated that he- considered the office of president s lieu Id be a rot- , ling one. While admitting that Mr Reid had filled the position capably and well, he was still of that opinion, and he had much pleasure in proposing Mr J. Grant for the position. Mr Reid seconded the motion, but jin- Grant declined nomination. Mr Bute! also declined nomination, and Mr Re-id was- then ,unanimously re-elected, on the motion of Mr Paterson, seconded by Mr Butel. The folio wing were elected a committee;— Messrs R. Shaw, J. Butel, K. Brown, R. N. Grant, J. Grant-, W. P. Saunders, S. Brown and T'hos, Feebly. Mr Douglas declined nomination as secuelary, stating that ho had a-l- j ready too many calls on his time. On the. motion of Mr Saunders, seconded by Mr Shaw, Mr K. Brown was elected to the position. The President said he regretted that Mr Douglas was retiring from the position, and the League was greatly indebted to him for the valuable services he had rendered during the four years he had been secretary. Mr Douglas said that his association with, the League had been most pleasant, and if he was able to assist in any way in the future ho was willing to do so. The membership foe was again fixed at 2is ; 6d.

After transacting other routine business, the meeting closed with a vote of thanks >tio the chair.
