ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Arrow Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening last. Present: Hie Worship the Mayor (Air AV. Milne), Ors James, Jenkins, Shaw and Summers. . , The Prime Minister (Air G. AAV Forbes) forwarded a circular dealing with the observance of ' Armistice Day (November 11), and asked that local bodies arrange for two minutes’ silence to be observed at 11 a.m.— Received.

A letter was received from the Main Highways Board dealing with subsidies payable on signposting, centre line making, and traffic inspection, the rate payable for the latter being £2 for £l.—Received. The Under-Secretary Lands and Survey Department, wrote bringing under the notice of the Council (as a Domain Board) the necessity of effecting insurance against accident claims wherever any labour is employed, whether unemployed labour arranged for through the Unemployment Board or ordinary labour. —The matter was left in the hands of the Clerk to attend to. James Shaw wrote stating that he had installed an underground petrol tank on his section in -'Carnarvon street. The installation bad been carried out according to the provisions the Explosives and Dangerous Goods Act, and writer asked that he be granted a license to storepetrol in same.—Granted. I. B. Ritchie, secretary Arrow School Committee, wrote asking for permission to put in crossings in front of and at rear of school and at the entrance to school garden—Permission granted. W. Dakers, lessee of the Garrison Hall, write stating that owing to the poor attendance at the pictures, he was reluctantly forced to close down in the meantime. Writer asked the Council to consider his application to screen pictures in the new hall, as, failing being granted the right, it would give him an opportunity of disposing of the plant instead of having to wait until the Xew Year. He would consider selling the whole plant to the Council, or would sell tire lighting plant separately.—The Clerk was instructed to write Mr Dakers expressing the Council's regret that he bad to close down and informing him that at the present time an absolute guarantee of the new ball could not be given, as the matter of power for pictures and lighting of the hall had yet to be considered by the Council. 1

Cr. James moved the motion, of which he had given notice, viz.—That the resolution offering the residence and isolation ward and land on which they are erected to Dr. Feigns on for £350 be rescinded. The motion was seconded by the Mayor and carried. Accounts amounting to £34 7s 4d were passed for payment, leaving a credit balance of £402 3s 6d.
