The following report and balance sheet will he presented at the an--Eua! meeting of members on Saturday next: — Annual Show—The annual show was held on Wednesday, March 18. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance. The entries, although not as large as the previous year, were quite satisfactory, and in many of the horse sections there wais keen competition. The sundries section showed an increase in entries, and the committee is grateful to the ladies for their continued interest in the show. Finance.—Although the show was successful in every other respect, the Committee regrets that the debit balance has increased from £2l 10s lid to £3G 7s Id. There are, however, several outstanding subscriptions to come in. There was a big decrease in members’ tickets, while other sources of revenue showed a drop. Special prizes and donations. —The Committee gratefully acknowledge receipt of special prizes and donations from the following: —Messrs D. Jardine, Leo Lee and Dunedin Stock Agent’s Association, £3 3e each; Messrs R. M. Patenson, P. Reid, D.
H. Cockburn, J. E. Watson and Co., and N.Z. Insurance Co., £2 2s each; Messrs J. AV. McLean and G. Metzger £2; Mr J. AAV McLean £1 15s; Mr T. Houston, £1 12s 6d; Speight and Go., Invercargill Stock Agents, Southland Hardware Association, Bank of N.Z., (Queenstown;, £1 Is each; Messrs AV. McKibbin, \V. S. Reid, AV. H. James, \A r . Milne, Lake AVakatip Mail, IDs (id each; Mrs J. R. Thomson (Queensberry Hills;, 10c. Messrs AV. Reid and Sons (AVakatipu Flour Mills) donated a sack of Hour as a special prize, and Mr C. R. Eason (Ripponvalc) donated a special valued at 10s 6d. Judges. —The committee desire to thank Messrs D. C. Aubrey (Glendhu; Geo. Stevens (J. E. AVatson and Co., Invercargill), D. Campbell (Bluff), G. Ross, and R. Cameron (Palmerston), for acting as judges gratuitously. Old Timers’ Dance—The annual Old •Timers’ Dance was held this year in the Lower Shotover Hall, and was a great success, the funds.of the So-, ciety being benefited to the extant of £lB 11s 6d. The committee desire to express its thanks to the ladies who made the arrangements in connection with the function.
The total receipts amounted to £261 19s, the main items of which were: Members’ tickets, £75 12s; cash donations, £3O 18s; entry fees, £62 2s 6d; gates, £32 2s, luncheon booth, £23 17s 6d; net proceeds. Old Timers dance, £lB 11s Gel; guessing competition, £9 17s 6d. On the expenditure side prize money payments accounted for £l5O 12s 6d, luncheon booth expenses, £3l 5s lid; printing and advertising, £2B 12s; secretary’s salary, £2l; judges’ expenses, £8 3s; labour on grounds, £4 10s; Band, £4; and sundry other smaller amounts. Including last year’s debit of £2l 10s 11, this season closed with a debit of £36 7s 4d.
