Lakes District Acclimatisation Society.

The monthly meeting of the council of above society was held in tho secretary's office on Wednesday afternoon last. Present: Dr Douglas (president in the cha.ii) and Messrs A. E. Anderson, Geo. McKenzie, F. St. Otner, Geo. Reid, A. H. Hiddleston, F. Finch, W. D. Warren, C. D. Dagg and L. J. Lynch. iVinutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. C. Hnddleston, Matakanui, wrote stating that he could supply 30 h&rea at 3s per hare and put them in bores on the train, the boxes to be returned.— It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Hiddleston and Dagg—That the 30 -hares bn procured, and that liberation of same be left in the hands of Messrs C. D. Dagg and L. J. Lynch, with a recommendation that they be liberated at Bendenaeer and Kawnrau Falls station. A. and W. McCarthy, Dunedin, wrote asking for a list of liceuse holders in the district during the last jear.— List to be supplied. A. J. Mitchell, Inspector of Police, Invercargill, wrote in reply, informing the society that the members of the Southland police in the Lakes District had been instructed to render every assistance in suppressing poaching in tho district. —Received and noted. D. Russoll, secretary, Otago Acclimatisation Socioty, wrote stating that his society would supply 50,000 rainbow fry at 10s per thousand, delivered at Gore or whure trains meet. The writer gave Bome information relative to the shooting of deer which became a nuisance or shooting deer without a license. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Dagg and Warren—That 20,000 rainbow fry be procured when ready. The secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society wrote stating k that his society regretted being unable to supply any red deer. Mr G. T. Chirnside of Werribee SPark, Victoria, gave some to the Wellington society this year and possibly the Lakes society might be able to obtain some of next season's calves. Writer suggested trying Nelson and Southland societies.— The secretary was instructed to makft enquiries from Nelson. The Southland Bociety wrote stating that it could not supply any rainbow fry. The society had been endeavoring to stock the Makarewa stream with rainbow but, without result so far.—Received.

The ruatter of the advisability of opening the lakes to fishing during the next season was discussed, when it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Dagg and St. Omer—That netting and fishing licenses be issuod over all the lakes as was done last year. Day of meeting—Mr C. D. Dagg proposed that the monthly meetings of the Council be held on Fridays in future at 4 o'clock, seconded by Mr Hiddleston. Mr Geo. Reid proposed as an amend* ment that the meetings be held as at present, namely, on the last Wednesday Afternoon in the month. After some discussion the amendment was carried and the motion lost. By-laws.—lt was resolved that new rules and regulations be drafted and that Messrs Gavin, Warren, Hiddles* ton and Evans be appointed a committee to draw up same and submit to next meeting. Accounts amounting to £2 lis wers passed for payment. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
