POULTRY FARMING.

REPATRIATION BOARD’S SCHEME. The question of establishing a looal poultry farm for returned soldiers was again discussed by the Repatriation Board at its meeting last night. In the course of a report of his recent conference with the Ministerial Board in Wellington, the chairman, Mr'A. W. J amieson, stated that the delay in connection with the scheme had been mainly uue to the fact that a number of schemes from various parts of the Dominion had been submitted, and the board was anxious to adopt one that would be adaptable to ail parts of the Dominion. The Government Poultry Expert had arranged to bo in Christchurch on Thursday, when further details would be discussed with Messrs Howard, Leadley, Merrett and the speaker, who was of opinion that a scheme would be forthcoming for the settlement of Beadel’s farm of 200 acres at Avonhead, and the carrying on of mixed farming, comprising poultry, beefarming, fruitgrowing, pig-raising and the keeping of a cow. incorporated in the scheme would be some system whereby training could be given at the settlement to those selected to take up the various blocks. Later in the meeting the chairman was asked how many replies had been received in response to the board’s advertisement asking intending poultrykeepers to notify, the board. It Was stated that twenty-six replies had been received to date. > Mr Leadley, secretary _of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, said that he had twenty-five names on his list and Mr Merrett had a further six. Mr Leadley admitted that some of the names "on his list might he duplicated, but said he considered sufficient support was forthcoming to warrant the Government taking action. The chairman said that the committee which had the matter in hand would orolmbly be'in a position to make a report to the next meeting of the board.
