MORE ACTIVE POLICY URGED. > [Per Press Association.] - WHAKATANE, June i. Much indignation at the delay in settling soldiers on the land has been expressed in the \\ hakatane country. At the Returned Soldiers’ Association reunion, at which about one hundred were present, Mr M. Douglas complained that although the Woodlands Estate, (Jpotiki, was ready, no soldiers were being settled there yet. Mr W. C. Roberts, president of the Whakatane Agricultural Association, laid that the Government appeared to be tied hand and foot by red tape. He advocated the establishment of local boards for settling soldiers on the land. The following motion was carried: — That this meeting strOngly urges upon the Government the necessity of quickly opening up the various lands ; n this country for settling returned soldiers.” i
