RANGIORA TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

DEMONSTRATION OF WORK. A pleasant gathering took place at the Rangiora Technical School yesterday afternoon to mark the close of tho year's Work of tho cookery classes conducted by Miss Wright, and the woodwork classes conducted by Mr O. Hargreaves. Members of tho Board of Governors of the Rangiora High School and of the Rangiora School Committee were present, also teachers of the Rangiora and neighbouring schools from which tho pupils attend, and a number of parents. Afternoon tea was provided by the pupils, and the admirable display and excellent.,quality of the samples of their handiwork, both in plain and fancy cookery with which tho tables were laden, gave, ample evidence of the success of their year's work, and reflected the highest credit, on their instructor, Miss Wright, and themselves. Mr R. Ball, chairman of the High School Board, who presided, thanked Miss Wright and her pupils for their entertainment and warmly congratulated them upon their excellent work. Mr T. R. Ctosswoll, principal of the High School and director of the technical classes, expressed pleasure at the interest evidenced in the work of the school by so many coming from a distance to be present at the gathering. Ho pointed out that the institution was almost entirely supported by school classes, the town not being large enough to run evening classes on a payable basis. As the outcome, of a conference between Mr W. Brock, Chief Inspector, teachers of the primary schools in the neighbourhood, and those controlling the classes, a programme of work was arranged, -which had heen of a successful character, there being at the present time 239 pupils on the class registers. The school was serving a very useful purpose in the district nntf ho hoped to see its benefits stiil more largely taken advantage of by the. enrolment of scholars from other primary schools within reach. Mr Cresswell went on to point out that whilst technical education was of importance it was not evervthing. Education had many sides and technical instruction was only one of them. He concluded by ''expressing his appreciation of the services of Miss Wright and Mr Hargreaves who had carried through a highly efficient year's work. Mr W \ Banks, a member of tho Board of Education. Mr F. B. Lane, chairman of the High School Committee and Mr H. F. Thomson, master ol the Sefton School, also spoke in complimentary terms of the, work of the classes. . . Mr Haroreavos in acknowledging the complimentary remarks of tho speakers, said a pleasing feature of his work was that the teachers of the outlying schools accompanied their pupils, and thirtv gainer! a practical know edge of tho work in hand. The attendance of the boys had been very good throughout the year. , Mis> Wright also expressed her thanks, and said the children took a keen interest in their work, especially the practical side.
