LOCAL TRIBUTES. 'At Yesterday's meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board the chairman (Mr J. A. Fleshor) moved: "Tho members of this board desire to express their profound regret at the great loss which the Empire has sustained by reason of the death of Lord Kitchener and others wiio lost their lives through the sinking of H.M.S. Hampshire whilst on a mission of service for their King and country. They would also express- thendeep sympathy with all relatives who were then so suddenly and sadly bereaved." The motion was seconded by Mr C. M. Gray and carried in silence, members .standing. Prior to the opening of the ordinary business of the New Brighton Borough Council last evening, the Mayor (Mr J. A. Flesher) movea' the following resolution, which was seconded by Mr C. H. Wimiy and carried in silence, councilors standing:—"This council desired to express its grateful appreciation of the magnificent services rendered by Lord Kitchener to the nation in various parts of the Empire, and especially in connection with the present war. It profoundly regrets the great loss the Empire has sustained through his death, and' also those accompanyin'- him. whilst' discharging their duty to King and country. It would also express "its deep sympathy with all who we<-e suddenly bereaved through the sinking of H.M.S. Hampshire." At the meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council last night, the ActingMayor, Councillor A...D. Ford, moved that the council should place on record its deep sympathy at the loss the nation had sustained through the death of Kitchener. The motion was carried in silence, councillors standing. . Before commencing the ordinary business of the. Lyttelton Borough Council last night the Mayor (Mr W. Radclifi'e) made, reference to the death of Lord Kitchener; He said the loss of such an esteemed soldier was a severe blow to the British Empire. _ H 6 moved a motion of condolence, which was carried, councillors standing.
