A LEBEL ACTION. [Per Press Association.] WANGANUI, June 3. Tho Supreme Court was engaged all day hearmg the Paterson-Smytli libol case, in which £2OOO damages is claimed. The jury retired at 9 p.m., and were out when tho telegraph office closed at midnight. INVERCARGILL CRIMINAL SESSIONS. • {Per Pnrcss .'ssociation,].....,'. INVERCARGILL, June 2. The Supreme Court opened to-day, before Mr Justice Denniston, who congratulated the juny on the lightness of the calendar, there being charges against only three persons. William Boyd, who was arraigned on four charges of indecent assault upon girls under sixteen at Waikaka, was found guilty, with a strbng dation to mercy. On a further indictment of a similar character Foyd pleaded guiltv. Sentence was deferred until Saturday.
