MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals mot last evening; presentMessrs H. B. Bridge (chairman), J. LcugU, D. M'Laren, W. J- Trusttum, E. H. Cross;, J- W. Watson and J. Spiller, and Mesdames Cross, Atkinson and Turner. s Before the routine business was commenced tho chairman referred to the death of the Society's president tho late Mrs A. Q. Townend. He said that Mrs Townend had frequently assisted tho Society in many ways, and without her assistance the Society could not have accomplished the work it had accomplished. Under her will the Society was a beneficiary to the extent of £SOOO. Ho moved a resolution expressing deep regret at Mrs Townend s death and appreciation of her generosity towards the Society at all timesThe motion was carried m silence, members standing. Mr Watson reported that he had conferred with the secretary of the Weliiuoton Society regaramg the proposal to form a dominion organisation. He had learned that the Taranaki, Aapier Palmerston North, Gisborne and Tima.ru Societies favoured the proposal. Wellington had not yet come tea decision, and Dunedin, Wanganui, kelson and Feildina; opposed the scheme. Q, Townend's ostato, informing the Society of the bequest of £SOOO made by Mrs Townend to the Society. The inspector (Mr R. K. Weir) reported on his work for the month, giving details of all cases of cruelty that had come under Ins notice. There were no prosecutions during the month. The report was adopted.
