Various women’s organisations are preparing a reception to the wives of the deported men. WORK IN THE TRANSVAAL. COMMISSIONER’S RECOMMENDATION. CAPE TOWN, March 4. Professor Chapman, of Manchester, chairman of the Commission appointed to inquire into the question of wages, working hours, cost of living, and cost of production, in the Witwatersrand and other centres, compared with other countries, alid also to inquire into tho establishment of a minimum wage, the payment of overtime and nightwork, recommends the appointment of a Commissioner to administer industrial legislation, and also Conciliation Boards, the voluntary registration of trade unions, the regulation of shop hours, and a Factories Act.
