BOROUGH COUNCILS.

WOOLSTON. An ordinary meeting of the Woolston Borough Council was held on Monday; present—Tho Mayor (Mr J. Hayes) and Councillors Wright, Taylor. Bell, Thomas, Coupland. Woods, Radcliffe and Round. C/nincillor Ross's resignation was received. The Works Committer reported that it bad selected a number of men for work, and recommended that now fencing should be done by contract; labour only. Tho Council decided to form Noraanby Road its full width, with a footpath on the west side, and on that part of the east side fronting Mr Hurcombe's land, pending the settlement of claims for compensation for the remainder of the frontage. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts had been £ll7 12s 7d. There was a debit balance at tho bank of £6OB 4s 9d, and temporary loans amounted to £1630. Tho committee recommended for payment accounts for £33 7s 6d, and submitted estimates of receipts and expenditure for the current year. The report was adopted. The district railway engineer wrote, stating that he agreed to the improvement of the footbridge on the Opawa railway bridge and the Council's suggestions for fenc-

ing and a better approach. On the application of the Rev W. H. Orbeil, it was decided to construct an asphalt crossing over Ferry Road near the train stopping-place at St John Street. Mr I<\ J. Qninn was authorised to number buildings.in the borough. GERALDINE. The Gcraldino Borough Council met, on Tuesday evening; present—the Mavor (Mr F. R. Flat-man) and Councillors T. Sherratt, J. M. Sutherland, R. Taylor, W. A. Sherratt and J. Kennedy." Plans for two new dwellings were passed by the Council. Dr Fergus Paterson gave notice of a case of phthisis and one of chicken-pox in the borough. The tender for street lighting of Mr E. M'Cabc, the only applicant, at £2 os per lamp, was accepted. Accounts for £79 6s were passed fo» payment.
