WORK AND WAGES.

[Per Press Association.] NAPIER, April 22. A settlement of the Hawke’s Bay trawling dispute was brought about this afternoon, when the employers and employees held a conference, Mr P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, in the chair. A committee composed of two owners and two employees lias been formed for the purpose of settling any minor difficulties which may arise. At the close of the meeting a vote of thanks was tendered to Mr Hally for the skilful manner in which he had brought about a settlement of'the dispute. INVERCARGILL, April 22. Something in the nature of a labour dispute has developed in connection with the oyster industry at the Bluff. One firm uses a steamor as well as several auxiliary cuttors, and the cutter men believe they suffer by comparison with the steamer men, all hands being paid at per thousand oysters dredged! As a result of the men’s protest four of the cutlers have been laid up, and the men rendered idle. There is said to he hope of an early settlement.
