THE VOLUNTEERS.
The Council of Defence has forwarded •to Colonel Hawkins a circular relating to the cup presented tor competition by Lieutenant Colonel R. Schunpher. Tho circular is a copy of a further cablegram from Lord Snlbottrne, Johannesburg, to Lord Plun'ket, and refers to the final oOfditwUß governing the shooting for tho 'Euinire Challenge Clip, as issued by the National Rifle Association. They provide that the competition shall be held on May 23,'instead of May 24 and 25. Units may select any range. The only qualification regarding the efficiency of competitors is that they must be active members of corps. 'Die targets are to be square as used by the Association in 1907. The firing point and butts must be in charge of a Unit other than that Competing. Thoso in charge must Certify that the competition has been carried out correctly and without undue delay, and that the targets are of the correct sisses. - \ Tho winning team will receive the challenge cup lor one year, silver medals, and £SO; the second.and tnird teams bronze medals and £25.
