SHORTHAND WRITERS' ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of the Christchurch Shorthand Writers' Association was hold in the Grain Agency Buildings on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance of members. The report stated that the receipts for the year had amounted to £l2 10s 2d, the expenditure to £l2 2s 2d. The ! E°ld medal annually awarded by the Association for tho highest speed certificate granted to a member by Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons, had been won by Mr F. L. Booker, with a certificate for 160 words per minute. Four speed examinations had been held during the year forty-nine papers had been sent to Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons for adjudication, and thirty-seven first-class Epeed certificates had been received. The following were the successful candidates :—l6O words per minute," Mr F. L. Booker; 150 words per minute, Misses Nellie. Dwyer and Mabel E. Kent, and Mr F. L. Booker; 14.0 words per minute, Misses Rosifia R. Maddren, Maggie Borland and Mabel Kent, and Mr F. L. Booker; 130 words per minute, Miss Rosina R. Maddren; 120 words per minute; Miss Mabel E. Kent; 110 words per minute, Misses Ivy E. Hooper and Agnes Snell; 100 words per minute, Misses Agnes Snell, Dorothy English, Gladys Wood, Elsie Wildermoth, I. M. C. Norrie, Alice Freeman, Madge Nolan, Minnie Smart and G. E. Stringer; 90 words per minute, Misses Ivy E. Hooper, Dorothy English and Minnie Smart; 80 words per minute, Misses Agnes Snell, Dorothy English, Minnie Smart, Ivy E. Hooper, G. E. Stringer, Madge Nolan, Phyllis Nettleton and. Marion K. Forrester; 70 iwords per minute, Misses Jeannie Wilson, Elsie Wildermoth and Alice Freeman. The election of officers resulted afs follows:—President, Mr T. H. Davey, M.P.; vice-presidents, Messrs C. H. Gilby and H. W. L. Digby; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. S. Chapman; committee, Misses E. E. Digby, H. Rutter, E. Scott and M. D. Digby and Mr 6. C. Baron; auditors, Messrs Pyne and Merfield.
