STATEMENT BY TEE PREMIER. fFr.on Ora Coreesi'oxdent.] WELLINGTON, October 25. ’ This afternoon tne Premier made a statement regarding the; work the Government intended to proceed with during the remainder of the session. There were about a dozen Bills on the Order Paper, he said, that should be put through before the House lose, and in addition there were on© or two measures, such as the Shops and Offices ‘ Bill, that bad to be further considered. He wished to get the Govern- ’ ment Bills through and up to the Legislative Council as quickly, as possible, in order that the House might rise at the end of the week. . The leader of the Opposition (said that the House should be told what Bills the Government intended to take. The Premier replied that he intended to take the Bills of - Exchange Act Amendment Bill, the Property Law Bill,: the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Acts,Compilation Bill, the Australian And New Zealand Naval Defence BiM, the Taranaki Scholarships Bill, the' Mining Acts Amendment Bill, the Mining Acts Compilation Bill, the Exhibition Empowering Bill, the Land for, Settlements Acts Extension Bill, the Teachers’ Superannuation Bill, the Ellesmere Lands Drainage Bill, and. . One or two local measures. In addition there'was the Fixe Brigades Bill, which would not be persisted with if objection were taken to it, and the Electric Lines Act Amendment Bill. The clauses of the Bill increasing the penalties would' bo dropped, as they were opposed. Most of the measures he had mentioned had been through , .committee, and should not take very long. . A member • asked regarding the Civil Service Superannuation Bill. The Premier said that the House would find occupation until Saturday with ‘ the Bills he, had mentioned. He suggested that the House should disagree with the Council’s amendments in the Shops and Offices, Bill, in order that a conference might be arranged# Amongst the more important Bills: not to he proceeded with are Civil Service Superannuation Bill, Second Ballot Bill, Private Hospitals Bill, Excessive Rates of Interest Prevention Bill, the Referendum Bill and the Absolute Majority Vote Bill. ;
