MARKET REPORTS.

ADDINGTON. The entries of fat cattle and pigs showed an' improvement in numbers; other 'classes were about on a par with late sales. The entries comprised 728 cattle, 3185 sheep and 824 pigs. Fat Cattle. —The entry numbered 223, and included drafts from the North Island. At the start competition was a bit slack, but improved as the sale progressed, closing firm at slightly improved prices. Prime beef made from 25s to 27s 6d, other sorts from 21s to 24s per 1001 b. Steers sold at from £6 to £ll 17s fid, heifers £5 10a to £9 ss, cows £5 6s to £9 ss. The principal sales were: —For Mrs S. Lemon (Doyleston), 14 steers at £7 15s to 2b fid; Air Edwards (Kaiapoi), 9 steers at £9 6s; and 21 steers from the North Island at £9 17s fid to £lO 10s. Calves. —A full entry of very mixed sorts, which sold at from 7s fid to £2 los. Store Cattle.—A largo entry came forward, chiefly rough and inferior kinds, for which there was little or no demand, the bulk being passed at auction. Sales were:—Yearlings _ 13s to 18s, fifteen to eighteen-month mixed cattle 30s to 47s fid, two-year-old steers £3 2s fid to £3 17s fid, two-year-old heifers £2 16s to £2 16s; two >and a half-year-old steers passed at £3 17s 6d, a line of very forward steers passed at £6, and three to four-year-old steers, in backward condition, passed at £4 15s; three-year-old heifers sold at £3 6s to £3 11s, dry'cows 80s to £2 6s.

Dairy Cows.— There was a small yarding df poor and inferior cows, which, met a dull sale at low prices. Fat Sheep.—A fair entry, principally wethers, a large proportion being out of the wool, of which two or three lots were good to prime,-but the Inajority were wanting in finish, some being only good stores. The woolly sheep wore mostly of good quality. Only a very few merinoee were yarded. The sale opened on a par with best sales, and competition was good throughout, woolly ebeep well maintaining late values, but _foy prime quality shorn sheep better prices were obtained. Brices were:—Prime woolly wethers 24s to 27s 6d, others 20s to 23s 6d, prime shorn wethers 19s to 21s lid, others los 7d to 18s, woolly ewes 20s to 23s 6d, shorn ewes 15s 7d to 20s, merino wethers 17s lOd to 19s fid. Allan (Omihi), 20 at 23b Sd; Mr W. Douhleday (Ivaiapoi), 51 at 22s 3d to 23s 2d; Mr R. Johnson (Kirwee), 62 at 22s 6d; Mr H. Taylor (Aylesbury), 62 at 22s 4d to 22s lid; Mr A. Aldridge (Duns and el), 54 at 21s 6d; Mr D. Jones (Weedons), 81 at 20s 9d; Mr T. B, Howe-on (Sedgemere), _72 (shorn) at 16s 6d to 17e lOd; Mr George M’Bean (Springston), 49 (shorn) at 17s 9d to 19s Sd; Mr T. Bolton (Kirwee), 45 (shorn) at 16s 7d to 17s. Ewes: For Mr E. F. J. Gragg (Winslow), 158 at 20s to 23s 6d; client, 68 (shorn) at 16s lOd to 20s; Mr George M’Bean (Springeton), 19 (shorn) at 17s 3d; Mr Ti Bolton (Kirwee), 16 (shorn) at 15s 7d. Merino wethers': For Mr Joseph Batty (Cairnbrae), 40 at 17s lOd to 19s sd; Mr J. W. Warren (Greendale), 48 at 18s 6d. Fat Lambs. —An entry of about 100, mostly of very nice quality. Competition was strong throughout, the bulk selling at. from 18s to 225, a few only making lower figures. Sales were: For Mr B. Hayes (Halkett), 2 at 225; Mr W. Campion (Ladbrooks), 10 at 18s to 21s; Mr V. W. Wriuht (Swannanoa), 13 at 20s to 21e; “Mr W. Wilke (Templeton), 14 at 18s 3d to 20s 9d: Messrs Trott Bros. (Broadfields), 12 at 19s 9d to 21s; Messrs Curineen Bros. (Broadfields), 8 at 19s 3d to 20s; Mr 0. Moody (Woodend), 8 at 18s to 20s; Mr E. Guin-ey (Halkett), 7 at 18s to 18s; Mr W. Power (Fernside), 7 at 16s 6d to 20s 3d; Mr J. 0. Amyes (Hornby), 10 at 14s to 17s 9d. Store Sheer .—A small entry of mixed sorts, chiefly in odd lots and backward condition. A slightly better inquiry existed. Sales were.: Two hundred aged cross-bred ewes, with lambs, 9s 9d (all counted), 121 at 11s (all counted), 70 cross-bred hoggets (woolly) 20s, 61 cross-bred wethers 20s lid. Pigs.— A very full yarding, principally baconers -and stores, porkers being in light supply- Baconers and stores, owing no doubt to the heavy penning, were easier, but porkers sold well. Prices for largo baconers were 45s to 4Ss (a line of 18 prime Berkshires, on account of the Canterbury Agricultural College, made from 46s 6d to 48s), lighter sorts 35e to 425, or equal to 3Jd to Sid per lb; porkers 20s to 325, being equal to 4d to 4)d per lb; large stores 15s to 20s, medium 10s 6d to 14s 6d; weanera 3 to 9s. There will be no sale on Show week, so next Wednesday (November 1) will be a double market.

BURNSIDE. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, October 25. Fat cattle —183 head wore yarded, the greater part prime to good quality bullocks. Prices improved as the sale went on, and were about 10s per head higher than the previous week. _ Extra heavy bullocks £ll 17s 6d, prime £9 5s to £lO 17s 6d, medium £8 to £9 ss, best con's and heifers £7 5s to £9, medium £5 10s to £6 15s, light £4 10s to £5 6s. Fat sheen—ls 27 were penned, principally good quality wethers. The sale opened at about last week’s rates, the market, however, hardening. At the close, prices were about Is in advance of last week's. Best wethers 25s 6d to 27s Sd, extra up to 28s 6d, good wethers 23s to 255, others to 225. There were only a few pens of owes, and the top price realised was 24s 3d. Fat lambs—6o bead were yarded, best from .16s 6d to ISs, medium 14s 6d to 15s 6d. Pigs—l 36 were yarded, mostly suckers and slips. The demand was only fair, and prices were a little easier. Porkers and baooners sold at late rates. Suckers 6s 6d to 10s, slips 11s to 16s, stores 18s to 225, porkers 23s to 345, light baconers 3Ss to 40s, heavy 41s to 465, choppers up to 525.
