LABOUR LEGISLATION.
A COMMERCIAL.CRITIC. [Per Press Association.] PALAIERSTON NORTH, August 25. [The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce was held last evening. The President, in his address, dealt with the labour legislation of the present Government, stating that it had gone far enough. It had done good work and- corrected abuses, but there was an indication -that the pendulum might swing too far. Moreover, the demands of labour made, under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act revealed much as to the scope of the labour expectation’s and the Factories Act Amendment' Bill, held out a menace that might well frighten capital and enterprise from the country. Every Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand should watch the present trend of class legislation, and strenuously withstand it when it was partial and unjust, or prejudicial to the interest of the country.
