ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

[Per Press Association.! DUNEDIN, August 22. At the inquest at Port Chalmers on Charles Anderson, the evidence went to shew that deceased gave way to drink a good deal. Though he only had two drinks on the day he out his throat, he had been drinking from August 10. A verdict was returned of " Suicide while temporarily insane." A man about forty to forty-five years of age was terribly mutilated at the Rattray Street railway crossing 'to-night. So far he has not been, identified, and nothing was found on him to give any clue. The man was evidently caught by a: train shunting while going or coming from the wharf, and was carried from one side of the street to the other, probably a dozen wagons.passing over him. His left thigh and right arm were smashed, the right foot and right hand cut off, three-fourths of the scalp torn away, and the chest injured. He was taken to the hospital, where he died about 11.30.
