THE BELLE COLE FESTIVAL

Madame Belle Cole and Mr John Prousc who lake, prominent parts in the oratorios “Elijah” and “Messiah,” next Tuesday and Thursday evenings, at the Canterbury Hall, have been enthusiastically received at Dunedin. The “Otago Daily Times,” in reporting the performance, of the oratorio “ Naaman,” at Dunedin, on Tuesday night, says Madame Cole was in splendid voice, and sang with all that skill and taste which make her concerts so attractive to the musically disposed. It is needless to say, with her contralto voice, of great compass and unusual power, combined with, her finished method and her artistic instinefc, Madame Cole’s singing was a, thing to be long remembered by all who had the privilege to be present last evening.” In referring to Mr Prouse’s singing of “The Angel of the Lord,” the same paper says: —“lt was sung with great feeling and effect, and) at. the • close the singer was compelled to bow his acknowledgments of th© emphatic and persistent applause.” The nox plan of “Elijah” is now open, at Messrs Milner and Thompson’s, and during yesterday there was a great demand for reserve, dress circle, and orchestral stall seats. The orchestral and chorus portion, of the work, by the Christchurch Motett Society, will be no unworthy feature of the performance.
