ILLUMINATION NIGHTS.

TO THE EDITOE. Si Tj —On recent great festivals, when the city was. illuminated, the Mayors very wisely inserted ain advertisement in the papers to the effect that the letting off of cracker.? and fireworks of any and every, description in the streets, was strictly forbidden, and that the police were instructed to 'arrest any one found doing so. I am sure our present Mayor only requires to be reminded of this to do the same at our approaching festival. It should include windows as well. On such occasions, the thoughtless care not a, rap whether eyesights are injured, by crackers —in fact, when they see that they have -hit anyone in the eye, they think it a great lark, and greet the putting up of the hand to the injured spot with roars of laughter, and look upon it as a clever thing they have done, and recount it afterwards to tbeir friends as a fine joke. The Mayor will, I hope, see to this.—l am, etc., NERVES. Christchurch, June 20.
