EXCLUSIVE CANTERBURY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —rlt is remarkable how completely the primary object of the Royal visit has been lost sight of, namely, to thank the colonies for their assistance in. the African War. Seeing that Canterbury led the whole Empire in sending out a force at her own cost, it is passing strange -that in Christchurch the opportunity of being presented to their Royal Highnesses should be limited to one privaits reception, and even that strictly limited by express order of His Excellency the Governor. In Dumedin, the- Governor has just declared the visit to be a provincial one, and the Mayor must take a second place. In Wellington, all callers at Government House were to be invited to the reception there.—l am, etc., MAN IN THE STREET.
