SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

A meeting of the Greenpark School Committee was held on Monday evening last. It was decided to place on record the Committee's deep sense of the great loss sustained by the Empire in the death of her Most Gracious Majesty the late Queen Victoria. The Board of Education wrote expressing satisfaction at the state of .the school as disclosed by Dr Anderson's report. It was resolved ' that a ' hearty vote of thanks 'should! be accorded the staff for the able mariner in .which they had conducted the school during the past year. The monthly meeting of the Addington School Committee was held on Wednesday, Feb. 13; present—Messrs N. K. Bow den (chairman), R. Bell, J. Down, J. Hooper, W. Kipple, W. Johnson, J. Moore and F. J. Staples.- The Headmaster reported that the number on the roll was 504- and highest attendance during the past month 465. The average attendance for the past quarter was 438—the highest yet reached by the school. Forty-one award's, were obtained bv the pupils at the Canterbury Jubilee Exhibition, comprising two gold medals, ten silver medals, seventeen certificates and twelve other prizes. The kindergarten exhibit was also much admired and highly spoken of. The school possessed a very promising draughtsman in Frank Turnpenny, aged seven, who competed in the under twelve class and was- awarded a special!'prize-for a really clever exhibit of ■drawing. A resolution was passed congratulating the teaching staff and the pupils on their success; Permission was granted to the'Swimming Club to use the schoolroom on the occasion of the annual sports on March 2. The Chairman reported that the erection of the new schoolroom was progressing favourably. It was decided to hold a school picnic -at an early date, and a sub-committee was appointed to make the necessarv arrangements. The Waltham Schoo 1 Committee has decided to recommend Fred Warner for appointment to the vacant position of pupilteacher. There were twenty-one app'icants. ,
