PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL ASSOCIATION.
. The fortnightly meeting of the Committee of the Association was held on Feb. 11 at the rooms, Gloucester Street, The Lands,Committee was asked to report upon the provisions of the Land Act-relating to transfers'-of leases in-perpetuity, keeping in view the retention of the unearnerl increment by the State, It was stated that the Bills Committee was considering the Licensing Bill of 1900 and hoped to present a. report to the next, meeting.. The Homes and Institutions Committee presented a report recommending the .enlargement and improvement of the reading room of the Public Library, . that there should be a. more liberal supply of" the chief newspapers, and that more accommodation in the. way of chairs and tables should be provided for the public. The Committee also stated that free reading rooms in other parts of the city-should,be started, and recommended that' the local government should consider the question. The report was adopted, and it was decided to communicate with the Board of Governors and parliamentary representatives for the city and suburbs drawing their attention to the unsatisfactory condition of the Public Library reading room.
