A meeting of the Council of the League of. New Zealand Wheelmen was.he 14, in the Clarendon Hotel last* evening; prtoen't— Messrs W. G. Atack (chairman), A. R. Kirk, W. E. Simes, B. P. Gully, F. S. Malcolm, J. S. Parker, A. Donaldson, and F. S. M'lvechnie. The Auckland Cycle Roads League -wrote asking the Council to an. application to the Minister of Railways to reduce the present rate for the carriage of cycles by rail. It was decided to assist in the matter. The Secretary of the Wellington Centre wrote stating the terms under wfe'ch-W. Martin would come to NewZealand to race. The terms wero considered exorbitant, but the- Chairman said he thought Martin would come over'for considerably less than the amount stated. It was decided to write to Martin regarding the possibility of his coming over. The amateur records put up by H. Amos lmin 0 4-ssec for half-mile and 2min 1 4-ssec for one mile were The Southland Centre protested against the ton© of the League circular drawing attention to the remissness of a number of Centres, if the Southland Centre were pointed at in the circular. The Wanganui and Auckland Centres admitted unavoidable neglect recently. . The Wellington Centre objected to the tone letter, as did also the Secretary of the'Hawke's Bay Centre. The Chairman stated that the effect of the circular had been that funds and returns which ordinary correspondence- had failed to obtain, had been sent in. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Wellington and Southland Centres explaining the reasons for the issuing of the circular. A suggested programme for the League's championship meeting, to be held on Good Friday, and the. following . Saturday, was submitted. The events included half, one, three, and five-mile cash and amateur championships, the five-mile championship being associated with the race for the Enfield Challenge Cup. The Rudge-Whitworth Challenge Cup and the D.C.L. Challenge Shield races for amateurs were also included on the programme as .well as a number of handicap events. The ten-mila champions-hip distance was to be eliminated, and notice of motion was given to allow of this being done. The programme was passed. Mr' Simes drew attention to the state of the Ashburton track, on which a race meeting was to be held shortly, .and the matter was referred to the North Canterbury Centre. .-,—, ; . v .
