DOMAIN'BOARD.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Christchurch Domain Board was held at the City Council Office at noon yesterday; present—Messrs W. Jacques (chairmar;.), R. Westenra, B. P. Manhire and H. P. Murray-Aynsley. An apology for absence was received from the Mayor of St Albans and the Hon O. C. Bowen. The Secretary laid on,the table the statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ending Dec. 31, 1900, which showed— Total receipts £956,, expenditure £917 Bs, leaving a credit balance of £3B 12s. The assets were set down at; £2199 10s, and the liabilities at £lO9 2s 2d. The balance-sheet was adopted. The head 'gardener's report stated that, in view of the influx of visitors during the jubilee, 'extra efforts had been made to have the gardens in a creditable condition, and this had, of course, caused extra expenditure. The heavy rainfall had had a most beneficial effect on the.vegetation. A very fine' set of iron gates had been erected at the Armagh Street entrance. It would be necessary to again empty the Victoria Lake shortly, and to treat the weeds with salt, as they were becoming troublesome. He also drew attention to the depredations committed by bands ol larrikins during the night hours. Arrangements had been made to skim the footpaths shortly. tt . . T . It was resolved to empty Victoria Lake, and to scoop it out further as soon as the weeds dried, and then to endeavour to kill the pest with salt. The Board decided to draw the attention of the Inspector of Police, to the damage done to the Parks during the night. It was resolved to give notice to the tenants of the Park to immediately cut and trim the hedges. . In reply to a letter on the subject, the Riccarton "Road Board objected to maintaining the footpaths around the Park to their fufl width, but had no objection to the Domain Board clearing away the growth under the hedges. The Band of Hope Union was granted leavo to hold the annual demonstration in the North Park on Easter Monday, no booths to be erected without the permission of the Board, and no charges to be made for entrance to the Park or for the right of booths.-.

The Mayor of Sydenham brought up the question' of vehicles being allowed in the Park. The manner in which traps were driven on the ground during the review of the Imperial troops wu« dangerous. If they were going to allow vehicles jn the Park, they should have some stipulated place for them'. •

The Chairman pointed out that a.good deal of damage was done by allowing carriages in the Park. lb had been intimated that no vehicles except those containing invalids should have got into the Park, and permission was only to be granted at the City Council Office, but others had appar--ently.gpt in by some means.
