THE WELLINGTON CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL.

[Per Press Association.,! WELLINGTON. Nov. 30.

At a preliminary meeting to-night of the leading Catholics of Wellington, it was decided that the sympathy of the public of the city should be appealed to, through the medium of a public meeting, with a view to repairing the loss caused by the destruction of St Mary’s Cathedral. Archbishop Redwood said that the intention was to rebuild the Cathedral on a more central site in the city, probably on the site now occupied by St Mary of the Angels Church, Boulcott Street. On the former site of the cathedral, in Hill Street, a substantial and commodious parish church would be built. His Grace said that the cathedral, which it was proposed to erect in a central position, would be a worthy monument of the Catholic faith, and worthy of the metropolis of New Zealand. Subscriptions amounting to .£1203 were promised in the room.
