MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The annual meeting- of the Kaiapoi Pro'hibitiorr League was held on Monday night, in the Women’s Christian Temperance Union rooms, and there was a good attendance. The following were elected officers forthe ensuing year :—President, Rev W. J. Gdw; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Evans and F. Sharp; secretary, Mr J. Armitage; treasurer, Mr J. W. Bradley; reporter, Mr W. Eobb; committee, Mrs Scott, Ensign Harvey, Messrs G. W. Bradley, D. Murgatroyd, A. Thornton, J. Capil, J. Eobb, W. Scott and F. Thorn. ' Ensign Harvey gave an address of great interest to temperance workers. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr T. E. Taylor, M.H.E., for Lis efforts in the cause of prohibition. It was resolved to meet fortnightly. The members of the Canterbury Society of Yorksbiremeu met at Mr Swann’s office on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance, and Mr H. B. Kirk was in the chair. Mr G. Swann, interim secretary, submitted to the meeting the draft rules, which had been revised by the sub-com-mittee appointed for that purpose. The Chairman reported that Sir John Hall had accepted office as president of the Society, and the Hon W. Eolleston as one of its vice-presidents. Sir George Clifford had been asked to accept office as a vicepresident, but his reply had not yet come to hand. The committee advised the appointment of five vice-presidents in all. The rules as brought down by the subcommittee were adopted with amendments. The following were elected officers of the Society: —President, Sir John Hall; vicepresidents, Hon W. Eolleston, Messrs H. B. Kirk, W. Hill, G. Pickles and W. B. Clarkson; to the vice-presidents, who are ex-officio committeemen, the following members of committee were added Messrs C. Story, J. E. Hanson, E. Clarkson, J. Caygill, W. Badger, J. Smith and W. J. Walmaley; trustees. J. Smith and H. Stewart; secretary, Mr A. S. Hill; treasurer, Mr G. Swann; auditors, Messrs W. Eollitt and B. Throp. On the motion of the Chairman, a vote of condolence, on account of his recent accident, was passed to the HonW. Eolleston. Votes of thanks to the Chairman and to the ; interim secretary terminated the meeting.
