Before the. scholars of the St Albans Side School dispersed for their annual Christmas vacation on Thursday last, a pleasing ceremony took place. Miss E. Tho Chairman of the School Committee (Mr A’Court) made the presentation. He spoke of the committee’s, the teachers’ and scholars’ regret at losing the services of Miss Newell, but wished her every happiness in the future. On behalf of the teachers and scholars of the side school, together with a few of the main school teachers, with whom Miss Newell had previously worked, Ml- A’Court presented her with a silver-mounted cake basket, a silver-mounted sugar and cream set, and half-a-dozen afternoon tea-spoons. Miss Newell very feelingly responded. She spoke of the happy time she had spent in the school, thanked the children for their gifts, and hoped they would work well with their new teacher. After three hearty cheers were given for Miss Newell, the ceremony closed.
