AKAROA NEWS.

The fortnightly meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was. held on Wednesday ; present—The Mayor, and Councillors Watkins, Chappell, Cheokley, Heath, Taylor, Penlington, Munro and Penn. The resolution passed at a special meeting held on Feb. 19, to make an, annually recuring .special rate, of -Jd in the £, to provide interest on the loan of =£9oo, was confirmed, and the Mayor and Councillor Chappell were authorised to affix the seal of the borough to the special order. Receipts since last meeting were .£136 Is sd. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to .£4B 13s 4d. The credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand was .£164 9s 6d. It was resolved that new lamps should be procured for Bruce’s Terrace and Grehan Valiev.

The Akaroa Boating Club finished its club races on Wednesday last with the following results : —Double Sculls —Per--ham (stroke), Whelch (bow). Pair-oar— WoodilF (stroke), Whelch (bow). Single Sculls (handicap)—Whelch 25sec, 1. The races showed that the club has a really good junior in Whelch, who was a winner in all three events, and will, doubtless, help to keep up the club’s prestige next season. All the races. had large entries, and the different heats were keenly contested. The annual general meeting of the Akaroa Football Club was held on March 21. There was a large attendance, and Mr F. Potts was in the chair. The following were elected officers for the ensuing season : —Patron, Mr W. H. Montgomery, M.H.E.; president, Mr E. E. Lelievre ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. H. Henning, J. B. Harrison and R. Bruce ; captain, Mr F. Wight; deputy-captain, Mr J. S. Tripe ; honorary secretary, Mr W. Anderson mittee, Messrs L. Vangioni, P. Mora and C. Goodwin ; Selection Committee, the two captains and Mr F. Potts.
