THE NEWCASTLE MINERS. THE THREATENED STRIKE, [Per Press Association.] SYDNEY, March 27. . The difficulty with the wheelers at the A pit has been settled, and work resumed. The wheelers at the Hetton Colliery have again struck, and the pit is idle. There is a little more hopeful feeling about the threatened strike. A number of the proprietors show an inclination to agree to the proposal for a conference. THE BOOTMAKERS’ DIFFICULTY REFERRED TO THE ARBITRATION COURT. Yesterday morning a meeting of the Naw Zealand Federated Boot Trade Council was held, and it was decided to give notice of an industrial dispute with regard to the statement recently issued by the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers’ Association, in order that the matter may be settled under the provisions of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. Both sides have agreed to carry on work under the statement hitherto in use, until the questions in, dispute have been settled. The matter will he brought before the Court of Arbitration for the whole colony, but it will, in ■ the meantime, formally come before one of the Boards of Conciliation for reference to the Court. The decision will affect the boot manufacturing trade from Invercargill to Wellington ; the Auckland manufacturers are not connected with the Boot Manufacturers’ Association,
