The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be -£40,124,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 62’14. Consols, 109 if. New South Wales 4 per cent inscribed stock' 121, 3) per cent 108}, 3 per cent 99)-; Victorian 4 per cent 113, per cent 106 f; South Australian 4 per cent 113, 3 A per cent 110 k 3 per cent 99 ; Queensland 4 per cent 115,3 ) per cent 108; Tasmanian 3 A per cent 107-jh West Australian 3|- per cent 108£; New Zealand 4 per cent 116, 31 per cent 107}, 3 per cent 89f. New Zealand mutton, first quality Sid second quality 2}d; lamb, 4}d. The English wheat market is quiet and inclined to weakness. The Continental market is inactive, and the American changing a little for the worse. Colonial oats, fine quality 24s 6d, common 20s 6d. Beans 27s 9d. Sugar, best German beet -12 s 4-id, Java 13s 9d. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 475. Silver, 2s 7id. Butter —Market flat, and prices show a decline of about 2s.
