ATTEMPT TO WRECK A TRAIN.
[PUB Pbess association. I NAPIEK. Mat 23. As the express train was steaming inti the Napier sia‘ion last night the engine came into contact with a large stone, which had been placed on the rails near the gal works, severely shaking the engine an,d breaking the cross-brake shaft which connects the steam brake, and also doing othei slight damage to the machinery. It is a marvel that theengine was notthrowa off the rails. The matter was placed in the hapdl of the police, and this morning Detective Kirby arrested a youth named Adaw Crowe, who stands charged with baying committed the act.
