GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

A fair number of farmers visited town on Saturday, Wheat offerings were limited, and business generally vras of a quiet character. Keoent cable messages have reported a decline in tho London market for wheat, the upward movement reported a few days ago apparently not having been sustained. Under present circumstances, however, the local market is independent in a great measure of tho cable quotations. Australian quotations aro sensibly higher, and this fact has doubtless influenced millers in tho advance made in the prico of flour. The weather lately has been fine, and farm-work generally has been pushed forward. Whxat ha* not bean offered freely, holders apparently having faith--in the

future. Speculative enquires for parcels in merchant's hands have transpired, but prices demanded somewhat check business. Pearl 2s 8d to 2a Tuscan 2a 7d to 2a 7£d. Hunter’s 2a 6d to 2s 7d. Fowl wheat is scarce, and brings prices well up to milling. . Oats. —Transactions in oats in the south have been frequent, and shipments from that quarter are considerable. This fact will, doubtlean, help values hero later on. Outside of this consideration the market locally is steadier, and prices, if anything, have hardened. Beans and Peas. —Samples of beans have been more plentiful but prices have not improved, Is lid to 2a representing values. Thera is little doing in peas; Prussian Blues 2s to 2s 2d, Partridge 2s Id to 2s 2d, feed lines Is lOd to 2s. Eyecoen ia in little demand at Is 6d. Floub. —Millers now quote roller £7 10a, atone £ 7, sharps £9 10s. Oatmeal i£S to .£8 6a. Oonßidosalilo quantities of southern production are being sold locally. Potatoes.— Digging and pitting are now the order of tho day. Outside prospects do not afford much bops of an, improvement; 15s to 17s Gd are quoted at country stations. Gbass Seed. —la ryegrass there is no business. Cocksfoot is equally dull, mad business for tho next two months will bs sluggish. A few linos of farmers’ dressed cocksfoot have baen sold for tba south out of merchants’ stocks. Cowgkass. —Considerable quantities cf cowgrssa and red clover have bean taken by merchants lately. A number of tho lines offered have bean a shade dull in colour. Valueo are easier for prime seed, good realising sfd and Inferior sd. Onions sro quoted at 85s to 9as, sacks included.
