SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the East Christchurch Committee was held on Thursday, evening at tha main school; present—Messrs M. Sandstein (chairman), F. J . -Board, H. Allison, S. Clarke, J. R. Brunt and J. S. Williams. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs M. Murphy, J. Tippett Smith and I. H. Pentecoat. Letters were received from the Board of Education informing the committee of the several appointments that had been made at the main school. The headmaster’s monthly report stated that the attendance of the children at the schools was very good, more especially at the main school. The swimming raoaa for boys had been held last week, and were vary successful, After passing accounts the meeting closed. The monthly meeting of the Papanui School Committee waa held on Monday evening; present—Messrs Jones (in the chair), Weston, Derrett, Hudson, Were, Freo and Buntin. Mrs Wagstaff forwarded her resignation as assistant mistress, which waa accepted. It was .reported that all the pupil teachers had passed their examinations, two of them having been in the credit list with excellent marks ; and that George Coats, a Seventh Standard boy, had obtained an exhibition in drawing at tho School of Art. The average attendance for the month was 238 out of a roll number of 283. In consequence of the irregular attendance the secretary was instructed to obtain the names of the absentees in order to take legal proceedings against the parents.
