AMURI SHEEP FAIR.

The Amuri annual sheep fair was held at Culverden yesterday, in weather about as unpleasant as could be provided—a nor’-weat gale blowing fiercely during the whole proceedings and rendering it difficult for the auctioneers and their assistants to keep their balance on the too lofty rails of the pens of the Saleyards Company. The attendance was large, and included intending buyers from as far south as Ashburton, but there was no approach to animation in the biddings. The Bale however, was successful considering the state of the sheep market, and the greater past of the sheep entered found buyers at current rates. Some uncertainty as to the prices which might be realised led, in some instances, to too high reserves being fixed, and in others to sheep being sent in which, at present values, would pay the owners to fatten on their native pastures. Most of the withdrawals were due to one or other of these reasons, the Leslie Hills consignments being amongst the latter. Auctioneers who officiated were—Messrs J. T. Ford, F. C. Tabarfc, E. G. Stavaloy (associated with the National Mortgage and Agency Company), A. Boyle (Pyaa and Co.), F. A. Archer (Dalgety and Co.), F. N. Bobinson (New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency.
