AUCKLAND NEWS.
[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Maech 8. A meeting of holders of scrip iu the Sarcoan land syndicate, which was formed some years ago to assist tha late Prank Cornwall in prosecuting his celebrated claim against Messrs M’Arthur and Co., has been held to consider what steps should be taken, in order to uecure the cash and lands in Samoa in Cornwall’s estate claimed by the syndicate. It is proposed to raise further funds with a view to taking proceedings to gain possession of that portion of the estate to which the syndicate considers it is sntitlsd. There are forty prisoners for trial at the criminal sessions. The Rev H. N. Maynard is leaving at once to take up work in tho West End of London. Tho Government Crown Lands Department is taking active steps in the direction of opening up for settlement as soon aa possible .such.'areas of, land as have been acquired by the : Government in the once inaccessible territory, known as the King Country, in the upper Waikato Basin.
