THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Now Zealand Amateur Swimming Association’s annual championship meeting was continued at Lancaster Park yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering of spectators- The weather was bright and warm, and soma fast times were recorded in the Summer Handicap, 50yds. The event was won by G. Tacon, of the Christchurch Club, with H, J. Bailey (Auckland) second and C. Proudfoot (New South Wales) third. Proudfoot won his heat in 293-aec, the fastest time recorded in a fifty yards race in New Zealand. The Diving Championship produced a fine contest between E. Thomas (Auckland) and W. Bassett (Richmond). The former won tho event with a splendid dive of 75yda Sin, boating the Association's standard by 25yds Sin, and the New Zealand record by 14yda Sin. Thomas was under the water imin IGseo. Bcsssetfc’a dive, 66yds llin, was on exceedingly good one, and is 16yds llin better than the standard, and syds llin batter than the New Zealand record. He was under the water 62sec. E. Davis (New South Wales) and G. Hossack each dived'soyds,-. and gained standard honours. L. -Leo. (Now, South Wales) won the Half-mile Championship, H. Hoey (Auckland) being second. Both men gave a fine exhibition of swimming, and gained standard honours. E. Davie (New South Wales) won tho Plunging Championship, and a capital aftornoon’a sport was brought to a close with an exhibition of life-caving drill by Dr P. J. Kelly and Maaara L. Leo, C. Proudfoot and Davis, members of the New South Wales representative team. The rescue and release drill on land and in tho water and the resuscitation drill were performed in a highly creditable manner, and the performers were greeted wifch rounds of applause at the close. Tho meeting' was under the auspices of the combined ■ Canterbury Swimming Clubs, and the various officials discharged their duties in a commendable manner.
