Lsdy Augusta Boyle, eldest daughter of his Excellency Lord Glasgow, met with a distressing accident this evening. While riding a horse in a paddock at Government House she was thrown off, sustaining a compound dislocation of the loft ankle, tho end of the fibula protruding through tho skin and stocking. It was necessary to perform an operation under chloroform, which was done by Dr Haines, Lady Augusta is progressing as favourably as can be expected. The dance to have been held to-night at Government House has been indefinitely postponed. Much sympathy is expressed for tho young lady and Lord and Lady Glasgow, While a railway engine was hauling three trucks, one, which was uncoupled, ran down the railway wharf with two men in it and want over into the sea. A man named Schailier was thrown into tho water and swam to the wharf, bub Diamond, a man sixty-five years of age, was struck by the truck in its descent, and disabled while ia the water. Daniel M’Kenzie, a seaman on the schooner Hum, promptly jumped into the water to Diamond’s rescue, and upheld him till rescued. Diamond had five ribs broken, and ia in a critical condition. ' NELSON. March 7. A young man named E. Donkin, trying to jump on a tramcar while in motion, fell under tho wheels, and sustained a double compound fracture of the ankle. He was removed to the hospital.
