NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY SENATE.
The Senate of the New Zealand University mat at 10 a.m. on Saturday; present —the Chancellor (in the chair), the Yiee - Chancellor, Professors Scott, F. D. Brown, Sband, Sale, J. M. Brown and Cook, Hon C. C. Bowen, the Revs J. Paterson, Dr Salmond and W. J. Habens, Sir E. Stout, Dr Fitchett, tho Mont Rsv the Primate and Mr Giles. The committee on law questions reported that:—
I. The following have passed the requisite examinations for the degree of LLB.— David Bates, Andrew Rosa Kirk and Charles Preadorgasfc Knight. 11. That H. J. Courtney having been admitted ss a solicitor elsewhere, has passed the requisite examination enabling him to be admitted in New Zealand as a solicitor, and your committee recommend that his Honor the Chief Justice be so informed.
111. That tho following have passed the final examinations entitling them to be admitted as solicitors : —E. T. Field, J. H. Quilliam, L. Bowerman, C. R. O. Walker, R. F. Smith, E. Rawson, G. C. Grey, ,T« E. Coates, A. Brown Durie, F. Z, Moore, B. Williams, F. Holds worth, A. J. Malley, and C. J. Payne. XY. —That the following have passed the first section of the Solicitors’ examination : W. R. Brugh in Contracts and Torts ; H. C. L. Robinson in Contracts and Torts and Practice and Procedure ; W. A. Styak and E. J. N. Miller in Practice and Procedure ; C. E. Nalder in Contracts and Torts and Practice and Procedure; B. HoSking, A. M* M’Donald, F. E. Potherick, A. F. Wiren, W. E. Rawsoa, W. P. Morgan, E. Russell, J. B. Beale, B. S. M’Connel, J. J. Patterson, A. C. Court and W. G. White in Practice and Procedure; D. S. Syme and A. C. Perry in Practice, and Procedure and Contracts and Torts.
The committee recommended:—l. That the present Law examiners be re-appointed for another year. 2, That the words “ and conflict of Laws ” be added after the words “International Law” in subsection 3 of Section I. of the Statute “The Degree of Doctor of Laws” (see page 113 of Calendar.) 3. That the said Statute be not otherwise altered. V. The committee also recommended that the following ba recorded as having passed the whole of the Intermediate Examination in Medicine: —F. W. W. Dawson, P. H. Ross, Jane Kinder, C. M. Schumacher. C. North, P. Moir, A. E. Falconer, W. E. Gibson, W. A. Logan and E. H. Williams. YI. That tho following,be recorded as having passed in the undermentioned subjects:—C. A. Pemberton, in Biology and Physics; A. J. Hall, in Biology and Physics; W. E. Fisher, in Physics; J. B. Arkle, in Biology; R. N. Adams, in Physics ; G. J. Bast, in Physics; W. Sutherland, in Chemistry and Physics; B. T. Melhuisb, in Biology and Chemistry. On the motion of Professor Sale it was resolved —“That the students reported as having passed he recorded accordingly.” The Senate adjourned at 11 a.m. till 10 a.m. on Monday,
