THE GERMAN WARSHIP.

A church parade of the men of H.I.M.S, Bussard was held yesterday morning at the Gorman Church, when there was a muster of seventy-five men under the command of Lieutenant Karff. Chief Lieutenant Kinderling and Lieutenant Varrentrap were, also preoont. The Rsv T. A. Meyer conducted the service, which was entirely in German, and took as his text St Matthew vi., 21: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart ba also.” At the conclusion of the service the sailors proceeded to the Wellington Hotel, where they were entertained at dinner by the German residents or Christchurch. Mr N. C. Schumacher (Mayor of Lyttelton) nresided, and was supported on the right* by Mr Hans Friscbeiasn (chief engineer of H.I.M.S. Bussard), and on the left by the Rev T. A. Meyer. The toasts honoured were those of “The Emperor,” “The Queen,” “The Ship’s Company,” “German Residents in Canterbury,” and “Captain Schrader.” The Anglician Primate of New Zealand, Dr Cgwie, has promised to attend the “ GsseUiger Abend,” which, takes place tonight in honour of tho officers and crew of H.I.M.S. Bussard. In addition to the soloists already mentioned, Mr Piiachel has consented to contribute to tho programme. The concert wiil begin at 8 p.m., and the departure of the last train to Lyttelton will be delayed till 11 p.m. For the benefit of non-German residents, the management desires it to be knoivn that the music, &c., will not be confined to the German language. A large number of people yisitad Lyttelton yesterday, and went on board the Buasard. They were shown over the ship by members of the crew, and the band played several selections of music during the afternoon.

The Bussard will leave Lyttelton on Wednesday.
