[Pee Peess Association.] AUCKLAND, Fee. 28. At the half-yearly meeting of the Thames Gas Company a dividend of 5 per cent was declaredA fire in Nelson Street gutted a large dwelling-house owned and occupied by Captain Amodeo. The damage is estimated at several hundred pounds. The insurances are—South British, .£525 on the building; .£4OO on the furniture, on which there is a partial loss. Admiral Bridges has nob yet made an official landing. Ho is awaiting the arrival of the Governor. Mr E. A. Harris has propounded a scheme for working the Thames deep levels. He proposes to form a Pumping Company in London, which shall put down a deep shaft on the Quean of Beauty ground, on the companies agreeing to pay a percentage upon all gold obtained below 500 feet.
