CYCLING.
[Pee Pbess Association.] NAPIER, Feb. 27. Shetland, o£ Christchurch, who essays lowering the cyclist record between Napier and Wellington, started at ten last night, receiving a hearty send-off; and a number of local men accompanied him. Cowell took him along to Danavirke, where the local wheelmen joined Shetland and went on to Woodville, which he passed at nine o’clock this morning. Here the Woodville men took him in hand and will go to Pahiatua. Shetland will travel from Eketahuna to Masterton alone, but for the remainder of tbs journey will have some one with him. At Woodville Shetland was very fresh, and he expects to reach Wellington bysix o’clock to-night, thus lowering the record by something like ten hours. WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. Shetland accomplished the journey from Napier in twenty'minutes under twentyfour hours, arriving here at 9.40 to-night. He rode a strange machine from Pahiatua.
