WORK AND WAGES.
[Special to Press Association.) SYDNEY, Oct. 19. The Judge, in summing up ia the Grassmere riot cases, said he was often surprised that the free labourers did not arm themselves to resist outrages. Without encouraging the use of firearms, he considered the men would be justified in using weapons if they bad a reasonable idea that their lives were endangered. If the freemen organised and armed themselves there would be fewer cowardly outrages perpetrated. The prisoners were convicted, hut sentence was deferred. MELBOURNE, Oct. 19. The unemployed have formed committees, representing various suburbs, with the object of urging the local members to bring pressure on the Government in favour of the unemployed.
